Emergency AC Repairs

We are here to help, so in the case of an emergency let's take a step-by-step approach to solving your problem.  Since true 'emergency' repair services can cost more than standard scheduled repairs its best to take a moment, breathe and try these four steps first.  If you are ready, let's get started.

Before you call, try these quick fixes:

  1. Check your thermostat:

Make sure that the system didn't accidentally glitch.  It should be set to COOL.  If it somehow reset or got changed, reset the system to cool and see if it kicks on.

  2. Check the air filter:

A dirty filter can cause all kinds of havoc with your system.  Find the return air vent and  pop it open, it can usually be found in the ceiling and most of the time it's in a hallway.  This vent pulls all the air inside the house into the system to cool or heat it.  If you have a clogged air filter the systems have to work extra hard.  If your filter is extremely dirty, get a new one and then run the system for a few hours to see if that fixes the problem.

  3. Check the AC Condensing Unit Outside:

The unit is on the side of the house.  It that thing that looks like a big metal box and has a fan inside it.  Making sure that your system is OFF, look down into the fan box through the grate.  Do you see ice?  That means your system is working overtime!  Let it thaw and change that air filter or remove it altogether until a technician can get to you.  Letting it thaw for a few hours and then making it easier for the AC system to 'breathe' until someone can come out and recharge the system is a good temporary fix.

  4. Check the circuit breaker:

If your system is just completely off, then check the breaker.  If it's in the off position, then flip it back on.  Wait to see if it flips off again. If the breaker trips again, contact us immediately! This means that there is a potentially serious problem that needs a professional solution.
